"The Mascot" is a terrific stop-animated film by Ladislav Starovich. Released in 1930, the film tells the story of a stuffed dog who goes on an adventure to bring an orange back home to a sick little girl. The painstaking animation is excellent, and the fantastical character designs are a treat. Tim Burton may have a higher production budget, but the work here is on the same level of artistry.
Joel Forrester, known for his accompaniments to silent films, has recorded a new original soundtrack to the film. Performed live during one of his monthly 'Silent Sundays' concerts, the music captures the spirit of the adventure and all the crazy characters.
